Leona Florentino House
Calle Crisologo, Vigan City
Built in 1797, and is the home of Leona Florentino, the first Filipina poet who gained international recognition. Leona Florentino is also the mother of the Labor Leader Isabelo delos Reyes.
The house is the first house that greets you in Calle Crisologo and is the location of Cafe Leona, a cafe that serves pinakbet pizza.
A must try when I come back to Vigan.
Elpidio Quirino and the Syquia Mansion
Vigan City history will never be complete until we discuss Vigan’s most famous son. Elpidio Quirino was born in Vigan and became the first Vice President of the Third Philippine Republic. With Manuel Roxas’ untimely demise, he took over the Presidency and served the remained of Roxas’ unfinished term and won his own 4 year term and was succeeded by Ramon Magsaysay. Elpidio Quirino married Alicia Syquia of Vigan, and this house (Syquia Mansion) became their house. It was donated to the government and is now a museum of Quirino Memorabilia. Pres. Quirino died in Quezon city and was buried in Manila South Cemetery.
